A trip across Austria is a trip through history and some of the most magnificent natural scenery on the planet. The Austrian Alps are the highlight and when you add in small mountain villages, stunning architecture, and swaths of vineyards as far as the eye can see, one visit is never enough. Salzburg is popular among tourists, not just because it’s Mozart’s birthplace, but also for the perennial favorite movie The Sound of Music. Outdoors enthusiasts will take to Innsbruck for world class skiing. And then there’s Vienna with its imperial history, palaces, baroque architecture, and romantic cafes overlooking the Danube, or explore the Wachau Valley west of Vienna for it’s fairytale towns and world-renowned wineries. Don’t miss south Styria, the green heart of Austria, for its amazing scenery, vineyards, quaint villages, and spas. The capital city of Styria is Graz, and is well worth a visit for a few days day to explore the old town area and enjoy local foods and wines. However long your visit, you’ll find an efficient train system that can get you to just about anywhere in the country.
