The Cinque Terre, or "5 lands", that stretch out along Italy's northern Ligurian coast are straight out of a seaside fairytale. Quaint, colorful houses cling to the cliffs like gumdrops overlooking the sea, and fishermen still rolls their boats to the sea each morning and back up the narrow streets at night, their day's catch in hand. Walking paths and trains are the only means of transportation between the towns and make for a unique way to experience the region. Though the towns are uber popular with tourists, certain times of year will give you a more authentic look they deserve. One visit and you'll know the Cinque Terre are someplace special.
