You can’t visit central Europe and not visit Hungary. Start with the capital, Budapest, one of Europe’s most visited cities that’s cut in two by the Danube River. There’s incredible architecture and excellent restaurants on both sides of the river. A lovely wine region, small rural towns, and cave baths are just a few of the attractions that Hungary offers. Include the cafes, restaurants, and boutique shops in the major cities and Hungary is a great European destination. Just don’t look for a beach, other than the resort town of Lake Balaton with its miles of volcanic hills, wineries, hotels, and hiking trails.
Wherever we go, we always have a beaten up guidebook, local phrasebook, and weatherproof map in our backpacks.
